1 v 1 Circle Challenge

1 v 1 Circle Challenge is a really good challenge that’s keeps all the players switched on and ready to react.

Players work together in Pairs & Teams.

Place the pairs opposite of each other on the outside circle.

Players in Blue & Green are Team 1, Players in Red & Yellow are Team 2.

1 v 1 Circle Challenge – How it works

Mark out 2 circles. One with Cones on the outside, one with flat discs on the inside.

Coach starts off with the ball outside the circle and passes to any random player. As soon as that player receives the ball, they become the attacker, the player to their right becomes the defender.

The attacker must enter the inner circle with the ball and complete a pass to his opposite player.

The defender must stop the pass and force the ball out of the circle. Play continues until one of those things happens.

If the defender wins, their team gets a point.

If the attacker completes a pass to his opposite number, their team gets a point. Once the opposite number receives the ball, they then play a pass to any other player for the drill to start again.

1 v 1 Circle Challenge – What to expect.

Initially expect the defending teams to win most of the points. Attackers will need to learn that their first touch has to be away from the defender to give them room.

Defenders will need to react fast and get between the attacker and the opposite player and force them to take them on.

Encourage communication from players
