Two Touch Tennis

Two Touch Tennis is a brilliant drill that really focuses your players on positioning, control & touch and of course passing.

To keep the game going they have two touches ( 1 per player ) to control the ball within the square and enable their teammate to pass the ball back to the other side.

Make the players think about where they should be standing to receive the ball, and what their touch should be to set up their partner

They will need to communicate well to ensure they both don’t go for the same pass or leave it to each other.

Passes are not allowed to go above knee height.

Team that gets to 5 points first wins the game.

Points can be scored by:

  • Playing the ball all the way through the opponents square
  • The ball not being controlled properly and going out of the square
  • A pass going above knee height
  • A pass not going in through the front two cones ( ie wide of the square )
  • 1 Player taking more than 1 touch

Two Touch Tennis – How it works

Pair your players up and place them in a square opposite another pair of players.

Team A starts with the ball for “the Serve”.

They play a pass to the other teams Square, trying to either score a point, by putting it all the way through, or forcing bad control so the ball bounces out of the square.

Once the ball arrives in the other teams square, 1 player has to control the ball so the other player can pass the ball back.

If 1 player takes more than one touch then the other teams scores a point.

First team to 5 points wins, then move the teams around and go again.
