Weak Foot First – Increasing Distance

Weak Foot First – Increasing Distance is a progressive Passing drill that looks to encourage players to use both feet, bring particular focus on the weaker foot first.

Small passes to start with give the players the confidence and as they progress down the course they embrace the challenge of the long pass whilst maintaining accuracy

A great drill for your younger ones so they get used to using both feet, or even for older kids that don’t use both feet enough.

Weak Foot First – Increasing Distance – How it Works

Mark out columns of cones with about 4 or 5 sections.

Each section represents a level.

Split your player into pairs. Start them at the first 2 sets of cones opposite each other.

To progress to the next level they must complete the following.

5 consecutive passes each with the left foot without the ball going outside of the channel or being mis-controlled.

Then..

5 consecutive passes each with the right foot without the ball going outside of the channel or being mis-controlled.

If a pass goes astray the count resets to 0

Each week you do this, challenge the pairs to get further each time.

Weak Foot First – Increasing Distance – What to expect

Lots of laughs, then frustration. It will look and feel funny to them but the more the practise the more natural it becomes.

Passes will go outside of the channels. Encourage them to focus on the ball when passing to ensure good contact and to your the inside of the foot.
